Fandom: Stargate SG-1
Summary: SG-1 have been given two days off, and Daniel doesn’t know what to do with himself.
A/N: Double drabble.
I have had exactly that kind of conversation. Also ones like:
Friend: "I just want to KILL something!"
Me: "I have a functionally endless supply of weeds. You are welcome to come massacre them."

"Fatherhood Is Support"
Fatherhood is
more than just DNA,
more than just being
married to a mother.
Fatherhood is
about support.
It's a treetrunk leg
for a baby to cling to,
strong arms tossing
a toddler into the air.
It's a hand on the back
of the bicycle right after
the training wheels come off --
and knowing when to let go.
It's clapping at recitals,
at school plays, at all
of the sporting events
or other performances.
It's a calm voice from
the passenger seat
while learning to drive.
It's paying for college
and going to graduation.
It's the everyday words
that become an inner voice,
heard and remembered,
absorbed and echoed:
I knew you could do it.

Read "A Change in a New World"
Jun. 15th, 2025 02:56 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Title: A Change In A New World
Fandom: Original (based on 'Trucks' by Stephen King)
Rating/Warnings: PG | Mechanophilia
Bonus: Yes
Word Count: 699
Summary: Can man and machine be friends ?
Given the story and the header, I'm not sure what orientation to call this. Maybe queerplatonic or quasiromantic. In any case, it's not the usual sex/romance between two humans, and it is a very sweet relationship across species.
Birdfeeding
Jun. 15th, 2025 02:45 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I fed the birds. I've seen a few sparrows and house finches.
I put out water for the birds.
EDIT 6/15/25 -- I finished building the chimney for the core of the new bonfire.
I heard a squirrel chattering in the trees but didn't see it.
EDIT 6/15/25 -- I did a bit of work around the patio.
EDIT 6/15/25 -- Out of 6 yellow wild indigo pots, 4 sprouted, 3 of them with 2 seedlings. I planted these in the house yard under the contorta willow, apricot tree, golden rain tree, and barrel garden.
EDIT 6/15/25 -- Out of 6 blue wild indigo pots, 4 sprouted, some may have had 2 seedlings but it's hard to tell. I planted these in the house yard under the maple tree, purple-and-white garden, and two ends of the log garden. I've gotten plenty of seedlings from this species, but so far nothing has bloomed so I don't know if any actually survived in the ground.
The snowball bush is opening its pannicles. :D There are three heads.
EDIT 6/15/25 -- I did more work around the patio.
I watered the newly planted things.
Clover is already sprouting on the bare patch beside the garden shed. Some of the chocolate cherry tomatoes have green fruit.
I've seen a skunk on the patio.
EDIT 6/15/25 -- I gathered a trolley of sticks and dumped it in the firepit.
I've seen a catbird and a mourning dove.

Reading: Two novels last week: Chuck Tingle's Camp Damascus and Alix E. Harrow's Starling House. I parasocially adore Chuck Tingle as a person, but this was my first time reading any of his work, and it's very possible it'll be my only time, as I just plain didn't click with this one. I had a better time with Starling House (and it too was my first book by its author), but also didn't really bond.
I'm currently about halfway through Adrian Tchaikovsky's Service Model, and can definitely see why it gets compared to Murderbot from some angles, although the vibe is wildly different and I can't say I would've made the comparison myself. (Ginny noted approvingly that anything people dare compare to her beloved Murderbot has a high bar to reach, and she feels it's fair in this case.) But then, whatever the things are that make a book really click/resonate for me, they don't seem to have any connection to the things that make people draw comparisons. Too nebulous, I guess. Anyway, this is an interesting read so far.
Watching: Murderbot, of course. I liked last week's episode a lot. Besides that,

The Day in Spikedluv (Saturday, June 14)

For fun stuff I watched the current ep of Resident Alien and some HGTV programs, read some more Lily Adler, and sent more messages to mom. I also wrote ~550 words on a new fic.
Temps started out at 55.0(F) and reached 61.2. It was originally supposed to rain all day, but the forecast showed that the percentage was going to drop to very low after 9am, though we weren’t going to have any sun. And that’s sort of what happened; there were still sprinkles, but not a soaking rain. Still it was very chilly.
Mom Update:
Mom had been moved to the SCU when my sister, A, arrived this morning. She’s talkative and actually ‘eating’ her lunch (beef broth and Italian ice – still on liquid diet). My sister said she’s much more herself today, which is great news! She’s getting a roommate, which is not good news as we were hoping for a private room, but what can you do. They didn’t get her up to walk at all, so that must’ve been PT coming around yesterday, not just the nurse. It’s ridiculous that the patients get zero PT on the weekend. Seems like they'd lose some of the progress they made.

June Challenge: Gates of Summer

Summer is a season of flourishing, when life is at its peak. It is a time of plenty, when the light lingers long and celebrations dot the calendar. As we prepare for our big Mereth Aderthad celebration in just a month's time—an event that celebrates the vibrant life of our group and all of the creators and members who have shaped its history—we turn to the topic of summer. Like summer, we hope the SWG and the creativity and fellowship between its members will be a light that endures for many years to come!
This month, challenge participants will select their own prompts from a collection of prompts related to summer. The collection includes quotes from the texts, canon events, events in Tolkien's life, and quotes from Tolkien's letters. As always, you can mix and match prompts if you want, and we encourage creative interpretations of prompts.
In honor of Pride Month, there is a special stamp available for fanworks that focus on LGBTQIA+ characters.
Thank you to anerea for this month's banner and stamps!
In order to receive a stamp for your fanwork, your response must be posted to the archive on or before 15 July 2025. For complete challenge guidelines, see the Challenges page on our website.

In other news, this morning, I made this baked oatmeal and it's good, but probably needs a little more cinnamon? Or maybe some allspice? Hmm... It'll be nice for breakfast over the next few days. Next weekend I'll make banana bread since I now have a bunch of bananas, since i needed one for this recipe. (It was either applesauce or bananas, and I'm more likely to eat/use the bananas, so...)
And then this afternoon, I made this pizza dough, which turned out well, but took a full hour to double in size, despite what the recipe says, so dinner was later than planned. I topped it with some mozzarella and this white sauce. it was good! (Pictures here.)
Tomorrow, I'll be making teriyaki chicken meatballs for lunch for the week. Right now, every surface in my kitchen is covered in drying dishes, which is the real annoyance of the dishwasher not working.
